    Location: Mt. Sterling, Illinois                           Reports To: Hagel 1891 General Manager / Chef


    Your Role:

    • Monitoring the open dining sections of the restaurant for empty and cleaned tables, estimating wait times for guests, monitoring the guest waiting list, and ensuring that the needs of the guests are met while they are waiting as well as moving tables together to accommodate large parties.
    • Answering the telephone and booking reservations.
    • Keeping up with the cleanliness of the host station, waiting area and menus are to be monitored by the host staff.
    • Escorting as guests arrive, the host staff assesses the dining room and, if an accommodating table is available, escorts the guests to the dining room and presents the menu.
    • Representing the service and overall hospitality of the staff of the restaurant.  While guests are waiting to be seated, it is the job of the host staff to ensure that the guests are made comfortable and kept informed of the status of their wait times.  The host staff is the first and last impression our guest will have of our operation.
    • Cleaning off tables and helping servers when needed


    Role Specifics:

    • Schedule: Part-time, may vary 20 hours  per week; days and times may vary
    • Schedule includes  days, 10:30-1:30, possibly some evenings, weekends
    • Work conditions: Standing for long periods of time, and occasional lifting of product up to 50 pounds­
    • Hot and noisy environment, with areas of odors, moisture, steam, and refrigeration
    • An Illinois State Food Handler card is preferred.


    We Need You To Have:


    • Must be 16 years of age or older.
    • The ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene.

    Hagel 1891 is a one-of-a-kind restaurant, nestled in the heart of Uptown Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Hagel resides in a building that was originally constructed by the Hagel brothers in 1891. Recently restored and updated in 2014, the facility provides guests with a comfortable, yet unique banquet space to host meetings, parties, rehearsal dinners and receptions.
